Copyright

Copyright policies are a concern for everyone who puts information on the Internet. These policies provide the exclusive right to publish, reproduce, or distribute protected materials. Rice University’s faculty, staff, and students provide valuable information on the Web but must protect their intellectual property. Individual responsibility is key to striking the balance between academic rights and others use of this information. The majority of online material automatically is copyrighted at the time of publication unless the author explicitly states otherwise.

There are some uses of material that fall under the legal definition of “fair use,” and resources are available to help determine if this fits your needs. Please review Rice University’s policy relating to copyright, and stay on the right side of copyright law.
